Microneedling

Some skin concerns such as rough texture, scarring, and discoloration can be difficult to improve with topical skin treatments. Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a nonsurgical medical sp treatment that speeds up the process of skin regeneration by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

Our aesthetic team performs SkinPen® microneedling and Collagen P.I.N.® treatments for people from Springfield, Longmeadow, Northampton, MA, and surrounding areas at our Westfield, Massachusetts, location.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Your provider will use a handheld device with a tip made up of many microneedles. The device is passed over the treatment area to create microscopic skin punctures. These punctures prompt the skin to heal itself by producing new collagen and elastin, resulting in smoother, firmer skin. These micro-injuries will not scar your skin, and microneedling is suitable for most skin types. Sometimes specially formulated serums are applied during or after microneedling.

What Can Microneedling Treat?

Microneedling can help improve a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Hyperpigmentation (Not suitable for darker skin tones)
  • Melasma
  • Uneven texture
  • Mild laxity
  • Wrinkles

Getting a DiamondGlow® treatment prior to your microneedling session can prime your skin and enhance its restorative effects.  Patients may also be interested in SmoothGlo™, a sequential treatment that pairs intense pulsed light (IPL) with RF microneedling for superior results.

While microneedling is suitable for most skin types, it can cause pigment changes in darker skin due to a post-inflammatory response. If you have a darker skin tone, you may achieve better results with a different med spa service, such as chemical peel or Fraxel® fractionated laser treatment.

Microneedling Treatment Options

We offer the following effective microneedling treatment options at our med spa.

SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen was the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. This platform uses a state-of-the-art, pen-shaped device and disposable tips to create thousands of micro-punctures in the skin and proven results for the treatment of acne scars and neck wrinkles.

Collagen P.I.N.

This microneedling device uses advanced technology to improve skin concerns with minimal discomfort and downtime. Collagen P.I.N. creates thousands of microchannels per second to deliver faster and more effective treatment to your skin.

triFX™ RF Microneedling

This microneedling procedure, performed on its own or as part of the triLift™ procedure , involves thinner needles than other options for little to no discomfort. During the treatment, the needles emit radiofrequency (RF) energy into the skin for faster and more dramatic results than traditional microneedling.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Do I Need?

With Collagen P.I.N. you can opt for 3 to 6 treatments in 4-week intervals for optimal results. If you choose SkinPen microneedling, you may need at least 3 treatments to improve your skin concerns. Your provider will determine a treatment schedule based on your skin concerns and goals.

Recovery After Microneedling

Most patients have minimal side effects after their microneedling treatment. You may notice swelling, redness, and skin flaking, but these symptoms should subside within a day or two. Your provider will advise you to skip makeup and skin care products with abrasive ingredients to avoid irritating your skin post-treatment.
